Declaring Independence

    This is one of the most patriotic months of the year for Americans. On the 4th of July we celebrate the birth of our great nation and a great victory over the powers of the earth which fight constantly to abolish our freedom and equality.  A freedom and equality that is rare in any other part of the world, one which has been bled for by many Americans, and by Jesus Christ himself.  The founders of this great land were led here and inspired by God to strive for this freedom, and it shows in that every aspect of our founding was based upon God’s Word. Below we will examine an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence, and one from The Bible in the Book of Romans. Upon examination we will see how much Christ has given for these, our “God given rights.”

    (From the Declaration of Independence) We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

    (From the Bible, Romans 8) 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

    The Blood of Jesus has been given freely that we might have everlasting independence from sin. Our life with Jesus is the greatest gift ever given, that despite our bonds of sin and death we would be made free to live forever with God in Righteousness. Without the freedoms fought so diligently for by those who have come before us the joyous news of salvation might not have reached us, along with so many others who have been touched by grace. Isn’t it wonderful that Gods desire for our freedom from the oppression of sin was so vast that he sacrificed his only and beloved son Jesus Christ to free us forever.
